Detailed Itinerary



Day 1 - Anchorage Arrival
Your tour begins with your arrival in Anchorage Alaska, where you will make your own way to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore the city with its eclectic sights and unique frontier spirit. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2 - Anchorage to Talkeetna (113 miles/180 km, 2 hrs)
On the first morning of your vacation you will have a comprehensive tour briefing in the hotel before picking up your rental car and starting your Alaska driving tour. Drive the Glenn Highway north to Wasilla. In Wasilla you continue on the Parks Highway north towards Denali National Park before traveling to the small gold mining community of Talkeetna, famous for its special charm. Overnight Talkeetna.

Day 3 - Talkeetna to Denali National Park (153 miles/245 km, 3 hrs)
Spend the morning exploring Talkeetna, where you can add an optional flight seeing tour. In the afternoon drive the Talkeetna Spur Road back to the Parks Highway and continue north towards Denali. Denali State Park’s spectacular scenery is a highlight of the drive. Overnight Denali.

Day 4 - Denali National Park
This morning you board a full day Alaska wildlife tour into Denali National Park (approx. 95 miles/152km into the park). The park is home to a number of different animal species. With some luck you may see bears, caribou, moose, sheep, wolves and a variety of birds. Mt. McKinley can be seen if the weather is clear today - surely a highlight to your Alaska vacation. A snack will be included on your tour. Overnight Denali.

Day 5 - Denali National Park to Fairbanks (125 miles/200 km, 2.5 hrs)
Continue your Alaska self drive vacation as you head north to Fairbanks. Incredible forest and mountain landscape form the scenery as you travel through the communities Healy, Nenana and by the community Ester, an old mining camp. Overnight Fairbanks.

Day 6 - Fairbanks
You have a full day to explore Fairbanks and its surroundings today. Ask your Fresh Tracks agent about what optional tours are available. Overnight Fairbanks.

Day 7 - Fairbanks to Tok (206 miles/330 km, 4 hrs)
Follow the Richardson & Alaska Highways east toward Tok. Just outside of Fairbanks you’ll drive by North Pole, the home of North America's Santa Claus - another fun highlight to your Alaska tour. Overnight Tok.

Day 8 - Tok to Dawson City (185 miles/296 km, 5 hrs)
Drive the Alaska Highway to the Taylor Highway and continue on the Taylor and Top of the World Highways to the Yukon, Canada. Weather permitting you will bear witness to incredible views of far reaching countryside from the Top of the World Highway. Before you reach Dawson City, cross the Yukon River by state ferry. Overnight Dawson City. *Proper identification will be required at the border.

Day 9 - Dawson City
Spend the day on an independent Canada tour of the Klondike goldfields and enjoy the old Klondike Gold Rush atmosphere of Dawson City. Overnight Dawson City.

Day 10 - Dawson City to Whitehorse (333 miles/533 km, 6.5 hrs)
Today the Klondike Highway east to Yukon's capital city, Whitehorse. Part of the route follows the beautiful Yukon River - be sure to pull over for photos. A possible side trip could be on the Silver Highway to the old mining town Mayo and Keno City or to the abandoned community Fort Selkirk. Overnight Whitehorse.

Day 11 - Whitehorse to Skagway (109 miles/175 km, 2.5 hrs)
Enjoy a scenic drive from Whitehorse to Skagway on the Klondike Highway. This leg of your Alaska driving tour will take you by Emerald Lake, Carcross desert and the small community Carcross. Return your rental car upon arrival in Skagway. Overnight Skagway.

Day 12 - Skagway to Gustavus/Glacier Bay National Park
Make your own way to the Skagway for an early morning scheduled flight to Gustavus. Transfer from Gustavus Airport to Glacier Bay Lodge/Bartlett Cove, from where you will depart on full day cruise into Glacier Bay National Park - don’t forget your camera for this! Lunch on cruise included. Overnight Gustavus.

Day 13 - Gustavus/Point Adolphus to Juneau
You have the morning at leisure to explore the town before transferring to the airport for your scheduled flight to Juneau. The remainder of the day is yours to explore the city of Juneau on own. Overnight in Juneau.

Day 14 - Juneau to Anchorage
On the last full day of your Alaska vacation, you will have one more day of leisure. In the late afternoon transfer to Juneau Airport on your own to meet scheduled flight to Anchorage. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 15 - Anchorage departure
Your Yukon and Alaska vacation comes to an end today. You will make your own way back to Anchorage Airport for your return flight home.
